Room 421, Late Saturday Morning

Of course Claire slept in. Claire always slept in on Saturday mornings, unless she had detention, and the school here seemed much more lax about handing it out than Shermer High ever had. Which was good, because sometimes a girl just had to blow off third period in favor of checking out the latest shoes at Ralph Lauren.

She ignored the message from her mom on the machine. Ugh. Her parents should hurry up and get a divorce already; it would save everyone a lot of trouble. Maybe she could go live with her brother. Maybe she could just stay here.

Well. Not in this room. This school didn't seem as big on social stratification as Shermer -- one of its faults, in her opinion -- but she was still popular, thank God.

(open to the roomie or anyone who wants to pop by. Rinoa is spending the weekend as Claire Standish from the most excellent Breakfast Club, because one princess deserves another.)

Claire sighed, and took in the other girl again.

"Fine," she said. "Fine. You're either crazy, or the island's moving people around, or, fuck, maybe you're Lynn under there, in which case, I promise I won't tell you on Monday how limp and dead your hair looked. If we're still here on Monday, we put in for a room transfer and find our real roommates. Deal?"

"Your bargaining skills kinda suck," Lindsay told her. "But fine. The sooner this ordeal is over, the better."

Claire was everything Lindsay hated about popular girls.

"You said it," Claire said, rolling her eyes.

Lindsay was everything Claire hated about punk girls.

"Try not to break any of my stuff?"

On Monday, Rinoa would actually offer to try to find any of Claire's stuff that may have, somehow, been trapped in the void, so that Lindsay could have the honors.

Lindsay imagined taking a baseball bat to all of Claire's precious, fragile stuff and smirked. "Oh, wouldn't dream of it."
