Rinoa's BFF Ariel was having a rough week. That was no fun. And -- inspired by the fact that most of her cabinmates were female (seven of the eight of them, in fact) -- Rinoa had had an Idea.

Which was: a completely ~~disgustingly~~ girly party. Pajamas, make-overs, gossip, and really bad romantic comedies.

Rinoa had her jammies on already, and had made Ariel help her set up. Munchies, make-up, and movies. What more could they want?

She had even posted a few ~~so very handwavey~~ signs outside, in front of their cabin and places where the other cabins might see, with the important points: Girl Party, exactly how girly it was going to be, and NO BOYS ALLOWED.

Except Jono, since he was the eighth boy in the cabin and all. He could be an honorary girl for the night!! Wouldn't he be thrilled?

Especially if someone tried braiding his hair.

- anybody who lives in Landshark, naturally!
- any girl student who wants to come hang out and be nauseated by the frou-frou-ness of it all
- despite the poster, any BOY student who wants to come can totally either (a) run screaming in terror or (b) stay and be girly. Fair warning: staying means you WILL be forced to endure horrific romcoms and probably get your nails painted.

Unless those innermost feelings were called upon for the dare. "I dare you to kiss the prettiest female in the room," Karla said, endeavoring to look innocent.

Don't worry, Squall. Karla won't be sad when you don't pick her.

"Usually it's quiet," Karla admitted. "People don't like to come in. And, yes, there are plenty of things I don't understand what they do or why."

She'd started researching them on Saturday, but hadn't gotten through everything. Not even close.

Rinoa wasn't paying the least bit of attention to the glare. A little jealousy might impel him to speak up, dammit.

"Use the bowl for modesty," she said. "It's more fun when you can't see it all."

And that should certainly give Squall something to glare about, too.

Ino laughed and took a long drink.

"Totally have!"

"The grumpy one," she laughed, picking Squall out from across the room. "He's in denial. And it's just when you're not looking that someone shows up, you know."

Or when you were visiting your ex. Something like that.

"Oh, good," Rinoa said, reaching for some foundation and holding it up against Helen's face. "Which are yours?"

What a fashion-conscious world she must live in! Very nice, to have your colors done at a young age.

"And if we have early-morning regret," Rinoa laughed, "we can just hit the nail-polish remover really hard."

Nail polish was much better in that regard than, say, an impulsive tattoo.

"Close your eyes," Rinoa said, scooting closer. "There's going to be a little pressure on your eye but it won't hurt anything, okay?"

"Truth or dare?" Rinoa asked. "But my 'dare's seem to be resorting to bowl dances tonight, so ... you've been warned."

"I'll stick with truth, then," Karla said with a laugh. "I need to work up to bowl dances."

"Okay," she sighed. "Rough estimate. How long ago? If it really happened."

"All right," Rilla said as her eyes closed. "But if I end up with an eyepatch, you're explaining why to my father."

That was just mean.

Squall glared at her.

He slowly walked over to Rinoa, not sure what he was going to do. He was shaking a little, even.

He looked at her. "So..." he said, nervously.

"Who do you think is the prettiest girl here?"

There, that was an out, wasn't it? A safe way to avoid it? Probably not.

"Ohh," Alex grinned. It all made sense now. "I'm sure he'll realize it in no time," she laughed. "Yeah, funny how that tends to happen."

At least, she'd heard of it happening. Hopefully, she'd experience it one day.

"Nail-polish remover is a godsend," Alex stated. She'd had her mishaps with polish in the past. It really was something she couldn't live without. That, her laptop and her phone.

The girl had priorities.

Squall was NOT happy. When had she ever seen some guy do a striptease before? Did Seifer...?

He just wasn't going to think about it, that was all.

"It's a normal thing," Squall told her. He wasn't anybody special, after all.

"I have fun all the time!" Squall insisted.

No, he didn't.

Helen put a hand up as if to ward away the foundation. "Mine? you want me to prove I know my colors?"

She shook her head and began pointing and naming. "Black. Red. Pink. Green. Teal. Yellow. Must I continue? I assure you I know them all."

She should have been grumpy about him putting things back on her. But he was shaking and her heart was melting into little pieces.

He could try to deny it all he wanted, and he'd continue to, but this ... made it crystal clear. Even more so than that moment with the make-up, before.

She stood up, cleared her throat, and found the easiest answer on hand.

"You are," she said lightly. "Those braids are doing great things to your eyes."

She reached up to brush one of them away from his face. And then, she leaned in, up on her tiptoes ... and pressed her lips against his cheek.

That didn't cover his kiss, no. But she'd propped the door open for a possible out. If, and only if, he wanted it.

"She just sighed and asked him if he really didn't care about her," Rinoa said, rolling her eyes. "Like that's going to help anything."

Squall was equal parts rude and completely, hopelessly lost. You had to fold your arms and tell him that that was unacceptable and suggest alternatives. Not hope for him to come up with the right answer himself.

Rinoa frowned at the other girl. "... No, your ... your colors? The ones that look good with your complexion and hair? You've ... never had them done?"

"I'll take full responsibility," she grinned. And she was also going to press very, very lightly. She leaned in close, holding her breath slightly to leave a faint line just under Rilla's eye. And then using her fingertip to smudge it.

"Truth." Rinoa mused about that one. "Have you ever been in love?"

Maybe she should have gone for the bowl dance.

"How are we defining 'public'?" Rinoa asked.

Hey, she might get to drink. A little rules-lawyering was required.
