New Orleans, Middle of the Night, Late Wednesday / Very Early Thursday (NFB)

The ectoplasmic reconstruction -- and that was still such a strange phrase -- had gone well. Or, really, it had succeeded, even if it was a bit chilling to watch.

... okay, more than a bit.

Rinoa had thought to bring a couple of books along with her, but she was too keyed up to settle down and read properly. And she was on a night-time schedule at this point, what with dealing with vampires for the past few nights running, so sleep was out of the question.

And so Rinoa was making herself some tea. The kitchen had been empty of food, but there was a tea-kettle in the cupboards, which was why Rinoa had thought to grab tea-bags while grocery shopping.

Another point in the kitchen's favor: it didn't have all those sleeping bags making a patchwork quilt out of the floor.

Raven was restless as well; the thought of going to a party of vampires wasn't a relaxing one. She was too wound up to try to get some sleep, so she wandered into the kitchen to make herself some tea.

"I see you had the same idea as I," she said with a small smile to Rinoa.

Rinoa nodded to the kettle with a wan smile. "It's going to be a few, for the water to boil," she said. "I'm wishing we had grabbed more snacks."

Unless someone else had picked up snacks without her realizing it. Late at night was the perfect time for both.

"I am not very hungry, but tea would be wonderful," Raven said. Vampires didn't give her much of an appetite.

"How have you been feeling? We have not had time to speak since we returned from your world."

It was a theme. Or something. It wasn't as though Jonothon could enjoy the tea, himself, but if he was going to be up and staring at the ceiling anyhow, he figured he might as well be awake in a room where other people weren't trying to sleep in the first place.

Jono and sleeping didn't generally get along at the best of times.

Raven shook her head. "I tried to sleep, or meditate, but my thoughts are too anxious," she admitted. "I had hoped that some tea might help calm my nerves."

She gave him a concerned look. "You should try to rest. I will be all right."

"Looks like everyone had the same idea," Squall added.

"Are you having difficulty sleeping as well, Squall?" Raven asked. "Or are you nocturnal by nature?"

Apparently, Jono was thinking the same thing as a few of the other people around. How the hell was he supposed to sleep in a place like this, anyhow?

Yes, this was how he was going to start a conversation on a night where he just plain couldn't get to sleep.

Rinoa was going to offer him some tea, but remembered at the last moment what a horribly bad idea that was.

"Does New Orleans have good music, then?" she asked. "You could go tomorrow, before that dance."

She, personally, would be dress-shopping, but that might go faster for Jono than it would for her. Because Jono was not a princess.

Jono was neither a princess, nor particularly concerned about how well his suit would look on him in the first place. Knowing Sookie's world, it would be on fire before the week was through, anyhow.

//Oh, Lord, Rinoa. Does New Orleans have good music? Does New Orleans have good music?// Oh, that was it. He was kidnapping people and dragging them around while there was still daylight. If they were going to be out looking for pretty frilly things and penguin suits anyhow, they might as well take in some of the local culture.

Gambit would be so proud.

"Nobody's stopping you," Squall pointed out. "And if you went, you probably wouldn't be alone."

//No, probably not,// Jono agreed, leaning back against the nearest counter and looking thoughtfully up at the ceiling. //Perhaps I'll take a look about tomorrow, see what I can see before we have to go to that bloody gong-show of a party. Can't wait to see how that goes.//

Jono and fancy parties. Yeah, right.

"God, you put it that way, it's kinda a crime, huh?" Kennedy interjected. "I mean, hello, jazz capital and all that. And the food--"

Oh, good. Bring that up to Jono, why don't you, Kennedy.

"...that'd be a little more my scene."

...this whole low-food, sleeping-bags-everywhere thing was going to seem familiar someday, but Kennedy didn't know that.

What Kennedy did know was that even though she was used to keeping late hours because of vampire-related stuff, she usually wasn't creeped out the way she was tonight.

"Oh, god," she said as she wandered into the kitchen and leaned against the counter, "tea sounds like the best fucking idea ever right about now."

"Pick your poison," Rinoa said, holding out a box of assorted tea bags for the dunking. "Can't stop seeing it, either?"

She couldn't help shuddering again. Some part of her was impressed, that they had managed the spell, and some part of her ... having seen the results, was ... a little sad that they hadn't failed. It wasn't something she'd easily forget.

"The best idea, ever?" Squall asked. "It's just tea."

"I did not know you were fond of tea," Raven said, giving Kennedy a tired smile.

Seeing her made her remember how Kennedy and Tara hadn't been at the reunion two weekends before, though she had no idea why they hadn't been there. Had she lost touch with both of them over the years?

Squall wandered into the kitchen and glared at the kettle. "Is that all we have?"

He hadn't expected to need provisions, so he hadn't packed any.

"Did you come along to the grocery store?" she asked lightly. "No. So do yoooou get to gripe about what we have? Again with no."

"Insomnia shouldn't be this trendy," Sookie said bemusedly, wandering in in her pajamas and mussed hair. She'd, at least, tried for a minute before giving up.

"You're the one who has us hanging out with creatures of the night," Rinoa teased, gently, before reaching for a hug. "How are you holding up?"

Seeing your cousin murdered, in strange reconstructed form: that didn't sound like such a great time.

Bobby... was resisting the urge to go patrolling, actually. It was the sort of thing he usually did when feeling restless in Fandom or New York, but that wasn't really an option here.

"You sharing?" he asked, nodding at the teabags.

"Always," Rinoa said, holding the box out to him so he could pick one for himself. There were assorted flavors inside; she'd favored the orange pekoe herself, but hadn't wanted to decide for everyone else. "I guess tonight's not a night for sleeping, huh?"

"Good timing on us all turning nocturnal," Sookie said softly, going over to lightly drop her head on Bobby's shoulder. It wasn't that she wasn't tired, after all. She just...couldn't. "We'll be able to party all night at prom."

There. That was better to think about.
