Land Shark Common Area, Tuesday Night: Impromptu Girls' Slumber Party

Rinoa's BFF Ariel was having a rough week. That was no fun. And -- inspired by the fact that most of her cabinmates were female (seven of the eight of them, in fact) -- Rinoa had had an Idea.

Which was: a completely disgustingly girly party. Pajamas, make-overs, gossip, and really bad romantic comedies.

Rinoa had her jammies on already, and had made Ariel help her set up. Munchies, make-up, and movies. What more could they want?

She had even posted a few so very handwavey signs outside, in front of their cabin and places where the other cabins might see, with the important points: Girl Party, exactly how girly it was going to be, and NO BOYS ALLOWED.

Except Jono, since he was the eighth boy in the cabin and all. He could be an honorary girl for the night!! Wouldn't he be thrilled?

Especially if someone tried braiding his hair.

(OKAY SO: whore4trash and furnace_face modded with permission, and they totally rock for jointly inspiring this post. This is in the landshark common room but is totally open tooooooo:

- anybody who lives in Landshark, naturally!
- any girl student who wants to come hang out and be nauseated by the frou-frou-ness of it all
- despite the poster, any BOY student who wants to come can totally either (a) run screaming in terror or (b) stay and be girly. Fair warning: staying means you WILL be forced to endure horrific romcoms and probably get your nails painted.

"I...don't think so? Not yet anyway. But maybe..." Karla frowned, chewing on her lower lip. "That might have been why George and I drifted apart. I might have been falling for him and just unconsciously ran away. Emotionally, I mean. Hmmm..."

She thought for another moment and said, "I've never looked at love in the face and refused it. But veering away before I ever get to that point? That's entirely possible. How about you?"

"Did you think it wasn't all that mutual?" Rinoa asked, reaching up unconsciously to play with the rings on her necklace. "There was this guy, and we had a lot of fun together. I don't know if it was love. I think ... I tried not to fall as hard as I could have, because ... I didn't know how he felt. I knew what he said he felt, but ..."

But, well. They were having a summer fling, and on some level, they both knew it. Saying things like that were less about meaning it and more about saying them, in that situation.

"Lots of reasons, I guess," Karla said. "That's probably part of it, though. I never entirely knew where we stood with one another. But there are other things, too. I'm from a completely different world. What's the point of falling in love, when we'll probably just have to part at graduation?"

There were other, darker reasons why Karla found it hard to trust someone enough to fall in love, but those weren't the kind of reasons you shared at a party with a female you barely knew.

"Are you both attached to your worlds?" Rinoa asked. "One of you could have just ... left it behind. Found something new, and went off on an adventure."

Rinoa had run away from home at sixteen, and considered this a very noble, romantic thing to do. Never mind that she'd been funding The Revolution with Daddy's money.

"I can't abandon my people," Karla said, all pragmatism. "I'm a Queen. I have responsibilities I can't just...disregard. And if I'm not willing to make that sacrifice, I certainly can't ask someone else to. Especially not based on something as...uncertain as a schoolgirl romance."
