Land Shark Common Area, Tuesday Night: Impromptu Girls' Slumber Party

Rinoa's BFF Ariel was having a rough week. That was no fun. And -- inspired by the fact that most of her cabinmates were female (seven of the eight of them, in fact) -- Rinoa had had an Idea.

Which was: a completely disgustingly girly party. Pajamas, make-overs, gossip, and really bad romantic comedies.

Rinoa had her jammies on already, and had made Ariel help her set up. Munchies, make-up, and movies. What more could they want?

She had even posted a few so very handwavey signs outside, in front of their cabin and places where the other cabins might see, with the important points: Girl Party, exactly how girly it was going to be, and NO BOYS ALLOWED.

Except Jono, since he was the eighth boy in the cabin and all. He could be an honorary girl for the night!! Wouldn't he be thrilled?

Especially if someone tried braiding his hair.

(OKAY SO: whore4trash and furnace_face modded with permission, and they totally rock for jointly inspiring this post. This is in the landshark common room but is totally open tooooooo:

- anybody who lives in Landshark, naturally!
- any girl student who wants to come hang out and be nauseated by the frou-frou-ness of it all
- despite the poster, any BOY student who wants to come can totally either (a) run screaming in terror or (b) stay and be girly. Fair warning: staying means you WILL be forced to endure horrific romcoms and probably get your nails painted.

"Probably me," she admitted with a hitch of one shoulder that was almost a shrug? "He's kinda the wear-his-heart-openly sort of person."

He was still trying to convince her that he'd stick around.

"We're together," she clarified. "But, you know--together ain't a simple topic. And you should totally just introduce him as yours. Either way you'll get a reaction out of him, right?"

"Oooh, that one's me," Rinoa said. "He's pretending he's not interested, so we're not really together, but that's just because he's stupid. I tell people he's my boyfriend, more or less, and just in denial about it."

Rinoa's reality was not like other people's reality.

"What does he say when you do that?" she asked curiously. "Like, do you do that in front of him?"

"I do!" Rinoa said happily. "And if he's not there, I just tell him I did it later. He glares and he says 'But I'm not your boyfriend' and I say, well, you will be when you stop being an idiot, and he rolls his eyes and says, 'Whatever.'"

Which was not, incidentally, 'please stop doing that.'

It wasn't! Ino was quick to notice that.

"That's almost like a confession all by itself, isn't it?" she said, considering that. "I mean, if he really didn't care he'd tell you to stop it and mean it seriously."

"That's what I said!" Rinoa laughed. "I mean, sometimes I'll go 'okay, well, I'll stop doing it if you want me to?' and he shrugs and says he can't control what I do. That's such a confession. He's just being stubborn, now."

She could out-stubborn him.

That was what all of the stalking was about.

"Probably," Ino said wisely. What? It wasn't like she was entirely hot on 'healthy relationships' either. Luck had it that her current one was pretty healthy but, you know, some of her past choices...

"Bet he just likes you chases him."

"He has issues," Rinoa said, rolling her eyes. Pot, kettle. "I don't mind the chase. He just needs to slow down and let me catch him now and then."

"You need longer legs," Ino teased. "Or roller skates. You'd catch him then for sure."

"Maybe I just need to tie him down ..." she mused.

Not that she was thinking of dirty applications of that.

"That might actually piss him off though," she noted. "Could backfire and then you'd be further behind."

"Good point," Rinoa huffed. "I'm not used to being patient. I like getting what I want."

She'd wear him down eventually, but waiting? What fun was that?

... okay, she was enjoying the chase. But she'd enjoy the having more.

"I can't blame you there," she sighed. "But, hey, I think you're doin' pretty good so far, you know?"

"Thanks," she said, offering a quick flicker of a smile. "It's progress. I mean, you think he's a grumpy jerk now ..."

Ino blinked at her.

"Was he seriously worse before?"

"A friend said she was telling him about her bad day," Rinoa said, "and he said he didn't care and that she should go talk to a wall."

She had no idea what Quistis had said to him, but she believed Squall fully capable of saying that to her. He liked to pretend nothing mattered to him.

Ino blinked. Then blinked again.

"No offence to him," she said, "but I'd probably smack him one if I had been that friend."

Or kicked him. Or shrieked. Ino was not known for temper control.

"She just sighed and asked him if he really didn't care about her," Rinoa said, rolling her eyes. "Like that's going to help anything."

Squall was equal parts rude and completely, hopelessly lost. You had to fold your arms and tell him that that was unacceptable and suggest alternatives. Not hope for him to come up with the right answer himself.
